For those installing laminate wood flooring, the process can be relatively easy if you are well prepared and have the required materials and tools to complete the job. It is important that you get the necessary instructions from the manufacturer or retail outlet where you obtained the laminate flooring since each type and style of laminate products vary significantly and will need different methods of installation.

If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to follow up with a trade guy or salesperson where you purchased your laminate products. They are trained to be informed of their products and can give you any help you may need during your next renovation project. One important step when installing laminate wood flooring is to prepare your floor before you begin the installation. If you have other floor types you will want to clean out the room before you start.

Remove the baseboards and moldings around the specified room and if there are doors they will have to be removed as well. If you have removed carpet, you will want to make sure there are no further nails or tacks. It is important that you fasten down any loose or squeaky boards, and if there are any dips in the floor you will want to use a leveling compound to even out those inconsistencies. Once the floor is clear of old debris and stable, you will want to install the underlay that you have chosen when installing laminate wood flooring. Underlay can be purchased in 36″ or 42″ wide rolls depending on what you require for your project.

Roll out the underlay in rows that are up against each other but make sure that they do not overlap at all. Plastic sheeting will be required to act as a vapor barrier if you are installing laminate wood flooring underlay over a concrete floor. Be sure to tape the seams of your overlay with duct tape to avoid movement. Depending on the type and style of the laminate flooring that you chose, the height can vary and you may need to examine if your door frames need to be adjusted to accommodate your new flooring.

You will want to check the height of the flooring with the door frame by placing a loose piece on top of the underlay and see if it still fits below the jam of the door. You may have to modify and cut the jam in a case where the flooring will not fit underneath. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions correctly when installing laminate wood flooring of your choice. If you deviate from the original installation instructions you may have problems finishing up your project later or be faced with problems afterwards.

After installing laminate wood flooring in the room of your choice, you will have to ensure that you replace the baseboards and moldings in the room by nailing them to the walls and not the flooring itself. By doing this you are sure to cover up that small gap that was needed during the installation process.
