The first tool you will use in the process is an eight foot straight edge. It is very important hat you check the flatess of the subfloor before proceeding. This is what the straight edge is used for, and this is one of the most important steps in laying laminate wood flooring. The majority of mistakes that will occur during laminate wood flooring installation occur during this step.
The next step is to correct any problems that you may have encountered when checking the subfloor. This is where a plaster trowel comes into play. You will use the handsaw to trim door casings to allow them to fit over the new floor with ease. You will use the miter saw, make sure it has a carbide blade, to cut the strips of flooring to the right length. The jigsaw is used for trimming pieces even more to make sure they fit around vents and other obstacles. Before cutting any of the pieces, you will use your combination square to make cut lines on the flooring.
When you have got everything cut down to what you need, you will use both the rubber mallet and the pneumatic brad nailer to secure the new wood. The pneumatic brad nailer is used for attaching the first strips of wood. The rubber mallet is used for tapping the floor pieces into place without breaking them. A utility knife can be helpful in this area as well. You may also need a hammer to help you fit some stubborn wood into its proper place. The tape measure is of course used to help you make all the necessary measurements to the wood.
