Wide plank laminate wood flooring has become more popular nowadays because it is easy to install. You can have nice flooring without applying any glue or nails. Here are 4 important tips I would like to share with you when you are installing wide floor planks.
Tip No. 1: Remove old trim with care
Before you start the installation process, you need to take off the existing floor trim from around the floor with hammer and pry bar. In order to keep the floor at good condition, you are reminded to extract the nails with hammer and set the trim aside. Please handle this with extra care so that the floor is not damaged.
Tip No. 2: Lay the underlayment with proper technique
You need to roll out the foam underlayment over the whole floor. In order to look neat and tidy, you are suggested to cut the foam with razor knife. Place the underlayment in rows. Make sure you tape the seams with suitable tape. Please bear in mind not to skip this step.
Tip No.3: Start the installation with the right material
Getting good quality laminate boards is not hard. You are advised to search for reliable supplier to get those durable ones. You can start the flooring courses by snapping 2 laminate boards together end to end. Then, lay them next to the wall with the grooved side of the boards facing the wall. You are reminded to put shims between the boards and the wall so that you can create a thin space. What is the space for? It is catered to enable the floor to be expanded easier if there is any environmental change.
Tip No. 4: Never miss out the uncovered area
You are reminded not to miss out the uncovered area during the installation process. You must find out the total uncovered area by doing proper measurement. You are recommended to get the right size of floorboard to fit the particular area. Getting the actual size is not hard. Do your calculation based on this formula: The difference between the width of the board and the width of the uncovered space minus 5/8 of an inch.
It will be good if you can follow the useful tips stated above so that you can create a great look for your house like what the professionals do. To be frank, installing wide plank laminate wood flooring is not hard. You can do it easily on your own. You can save cost and save time if you start the process by using systematic approach.
